About

This site was designed to teach you real world Spanish. While I was a university student I had taken years of classroom Spanish only to encounter real world situations where my communications skills no estaban a la altura ( were not up to par). I wanted to be fluent. After traveling and working in situations where I would practice my Spanish I began to start asking la pregunta ( the question). of what does it take to reach the level of proficiency I desired. After interviewing dozens of people who had mastered a second language without a classroom, I discovered the only way to dominar un nuevo idioma (to become fluent) is to immerse yourself completely.

This website is designed to provide as many avenues as possible to help you improve your Spanish skills. By listening, watching, and reading authentic Spanish conversations, news articles, interviews, podcasts, and lessons, your Spanish abilities will improve un montón (a lot). Soon you will be speaking, thinking, and even dreaming in Spanish!

My name is Ryan and this is My Spanish Life. I live in Nashville TN where I study Spanish and Biology at the University of Tennessee.

Although I still have a passion for biology I have become very enthusiastic about Spanish. This fervor was catapulted after studying abroad in Alicante Spain. It was filled with beautiful scenes, beautiful culture, and beautiful people. This is where I experienced la mayoría ( the majority) of my “real world” Spanish.

I created this website simply to fill it with information I like. I feel the best way to learn a foreign language is to have full immersion. However, since I’m not able to move to Spain or South America at the moment I have done the best I can to bring some of their culture here. All the videos, audio, and learning tools I have posted are things I like or have created. As time goes on I look forward to filling this place with some really good stuff. I’m going to combine some classroom material as well as things I have picked up from talking to native Spanish speakers. Many of them have learned English as a second language and are giving me tips and materials that really helped them. As I’ve said, this is all stuff I really enjoy so I hope you learn a lot and have fun!
Ryan
